Senior Youth Co-ordinator

The Swan Youth Project seeks a Senior Youth Co-ordinator who shares our passion to provide a vibrant youth centre that supports the personal and social development of the young people within the local community.

What is the Swan Youth Project?

As a community charity, the SYP aims to serve the young people (aged 11+) of Berkhamsted and surrounding areas as a drop-in centre (generally between 3.30 - 6.00pm) and provider of holiday time activities.

The position is part-time and involves 20-25 hours per week (fixed during term time and requiring some flexibility during school holidays).

Salary of £24-26k full-time equivalent (negotiable dependent on skills and/or experience).

The Swan Youth Project is committed to making a difference to the lives of its young people, and as such the successful candidate must show a willingness to demonstrate commitment to the values and behaviours which flow from its ethos.

Some of the Key Responsibilities within the role are:

  • Deliver positive after school youth activities in an active and vibrant youth setting;

  • Deliver a programme of age appropriate sessions during the school holidays;

  • Build appropriate relationships with and support young people;

  • Recruit, lead and inspire a team of youth workers and volunteers;

  • Build a rapport with and understand the current issues that affect young people;

  • Coordinate with the Admin assistant to ensure the Centre runs smoothly; and report to the Board of Trustees.


You could be successful in this role were you to:

  • Bring a recognised qualification and/or equivalent experience in youth work;

  • Have experience of mentoring young people in a community setting and on a 1:1 basis;

  • Be self-motivated, with proven ability to take initiative and organise your own

    time; and

  • Have relevant and up to date safeguarding qualifications, and committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
