Why SWAN Matters
These are voices from every corner of The Swan Youth Project — from young people, parents and carers, to staff, volunteers and partner organisations in Berkhamsted. Real stories of youth support, mental health, creativity and community. Honest words. Quiet moments of hope. Together, they show why SWAN truly matters.

At The Swan Youth Project, we believe every young person deserves a safe space, support, and a sense of belonging - to grow in confidence and create positive change in their community.
Healthy Meals
at The SWAN
Every day at The SWAN, a local youth charity in Berkhamsted, we prepare fresh, homemade meals that offer young people far more than nourishment they provide comfort, stability, and the profound feeling of being cared for.
In this video, young people share how something as simple as a hot, healthy meal can transform their wellbeing and strengthen their sense of belonging.
With your support, our youth project can continue providing food.
Charlie's Voice:
How The SWAN Transforms the Skate Park Community
Charlie is one of the young people we met at the skate park in Berkhamsted. He told us how SWAN’s presence has transformed the space - making it safer, more welcoming, and giving younger children a real sense of community.
What once felt unsafe now feels alive with the support of SWAN staff. Even the small things, like offering healthy snacks and fresh fruit, show young people they are valued and included.
Charlie also dreams of simple improvements to lights, a graffiti wall, perhaps even a basketball hoop to make the skate park even better. His words capture what truly matters: safety, belonging, and a positive space to grow.
With your support, the SWAN Youth Project can continue creating safe spaces where young people thrive.
Building Strength and Confidence: SWAN’s 5-Week Boxing Journey
At The SWAN Youth Project in Berkhamsted, young people take part in boxing sessions that build far more than fitness. From burpees and sit-ups to jabs and sparring, every week they grow stronger, more focused, and more confident. What begins as training soon becomes a safe space to challenge themselves, support each other, and feel proud of their progress.
With the guidance of coaches Nikki and Nick from Britannia Boxing gym, boxing is never just a workout. It’s about respect, encouragement, and discovering resilience and self-belief.
With your support, the SWAN Youth Project can keep creating safe spaces and opportunities like this — helping young people grow stronger inside and out.
