HAPpy Camp: Week One ☀️

What a fantastic first week of HAPpy Camp at The Swan!

Our young people got involved in so many different activities throughout the week. We spent time at the park playing dodgeball, trying an exercise circuit and playing plenty of games together. Back at The Swan, there was lots of creativity with decorated water bottles, Hama beads, drawing and clay modelling. 🎨✨

Food was a big part of our week too. Our young people helped prepare lunches, chopped fruit and vegetables, learnt how to make different sauces and even created their own pizzas. We enjoyed pasta, colourful vegetables, sticky rice, salads, fresh fruit, pancakes and a few treats along the way! 🍕🍓

Throughout the week we also talked about healthy lifestyles, mindfulness and looking after both our physical and mental wellbeing. We discussed healthy choices and even reducing plastic waste by using reusable water bottles. It was lovely to hear how well informed our young people already were. 💚

With one particularly hot day, we slowed things down and let everyone choose what they wanted to do. Some decorated water bottles, some made Hama bead designs and others drew their favourite characters. At the end of the session, everyone agreed they had loved having time to slow down, talk, make things and simply enjoy being together.

And we finished the week with a very exciting visit from Teaching Talons, who brought Chip the dog and a range of animals for our young people to meet. 🐾

A huge thank you to HCF for supporting and funding the HAPpy programme, helping to ensure that no child goes hungry during the holidays while also giving young people the chance to enjoy a range of enriching experiences.

We feel very grateful for such a brilliant first week. 💚
